A faithful man will abound with blessings. In the parable of the talents the servants who were faithful over a few things heard 'Well done' and were made rulers over many, while the one who buried what he was given lost even that. Hannah, provoked and in bitterness of soul, poured out her heart before the Lord, asked to find favour in His sight, and went her way with her face no longer sad — and the Lord remembered her. He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much, and no one can serve both God and mammon. God's favour is found by the faithful — but He also warns the church that has laboured and persevered not to leave its first love.

None of the rulers of this age knew the hidden wisdom of God — for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. What the enemy meant for destruction, God works together for good. Tribulation produces perseverance, perseverance character, and character a hope that does not disappoint. Our light affliction is but for a moment and is working for us an eternal weight of glory, so we count it all joy in trials, resist the roaring lion steadfast in the faith, and boast in our weakness, because when we are weak, then we are strong. The devil departed from Jesus until an opportune time — and Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit.

Give no place to the devil, for we are not ignorant of his devices. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him, and no temptation overtakes us without God making a way of escape. So arise and shine — though darkness covers the earth, the Lord rises over His people and His glory is seen upon them. When we fall, we will arise; Christ has disarmed principalities and powers, the Spirit of truth guides us into all truth, and thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Do not despise the day of small beginnings — what God starts, He sees through. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, and while a man makes many plans, it is the Lord's counsel that stands. When the prosperity of the wicked makes our feet slip, as it did for Asaph in Psalm 73, the answer is found in the sanctuary of God: He holds us by the right hand and is the strength of our heart forever. So we trust not in chariots or horses, but keep looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

We once walked according to the course of this world, fulfilling the desires of the flesh — but God made us alive in Christ. Whoever we present ourselves to obey, we become slaves of, so we must not let sin reign in our mortal bodies. The Spirit of truth guides us into all truth; Jesus' sheep hear His voice and follow Him, and as many as are led by the Spirit are sons of God. Walk by the Spirit, and today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.

God formed us and calls us by name for a purpose only He knows fully — like clay in the Potter's hands, we don't get to question our Maker. We were made to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, no longer conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of our minds. Through the once-for-all offering of Jesus, we can draw near with boldness and full assurance of faith.

We are not to be ignorant of Satan's devices — his chief weapon is not raw power but accusation, deceit and condemnation. Where the law brings wrath, Christ has disarmed principalities and powers, nailing the record of our sins to the cross. Standing firm means holding fast to the truth of God's Word, which endures forever and accomplishes what it is sent to do.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord — with trumpet, lute and harp, timbrel and dance, loud and clashing cymbals. David danced before the Lord with all his might as the ark came home, and we are called to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. The God in your midst is mighty to save, and He rejoices over you with singing.

God has made Himself known — a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, glory filling the temple until the priests could not stand. Moses would not move without Him: if Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. Today your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so do not harden your heart when you hear His voice.

Paul's promise to the Philippians comes to a church that had given to him again and again. God supplies seed to the sower, and the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord — so give cheerfully, walk by faith and not by sight, and trust the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills to meet every need according to His riches in glory.

The flesh wars against the Spirit, and every believer knows Paul's cry: the good I want to do, I do not do. But there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus — the Spirit of life sets us free from the law of sin and death, and as we abide in the Vine we bear the fruit of the Spirit instead of the works of the flesh.
